I believe that education is a vital element in the development of every child. This is because when educated we are able to achieve more than what we could ever thought possible. When it comes to children, I believe that they should be eloquently melded at the beginning of their education. Children need assistance, guidance and much care at an early age in order to proficiently grasp all the elements of their educational system.

            As an aspiring educator, it is my goal to prepare my students fully in all aspects possible. To make sure that once they leave my realm, they are able to expand into which ever areas possible without any restrictions. It is also my goal to act as a facilitator within my classroom, so as to provide my students with the guidance needed to be able to practice free discovery. Moreover, I’d seek to provide assistance once and only when my students really need it. I want my students to learn to be independent, and understand that the teacher is not the only source of information. In addition, as aspects of care are very essential in the development of a child, I would seek to provide my students with the love and encouragement they need to continue working hard and strive for the very best.

When taking into consideration the action of establishing well rounded individuals, there are many elements that I as a teacher most enforce.  I must learn to analyse, study and detail the child. This I would need to do in order to rightfully determine the child’s learning style, multiple intelligences, strong and weak points, as well as their attitude towards school on a whole. Then with the information gathered I can develop incentives to make sure that each child is met correctly. However, even though FBE stresses the use of many props and hands on activities during lessons, there some things that I believe I can introduce the traditional way. Elements such as handwriting can be first displayed on the board and then taken to hands on experiments. 

Furthermore, as I believe that the early stimulation aspects of education in a child are essential for his or her development, I would seek to encourage it and develop it within my learning theory. Therefore when beginning to educate students in this section, I will begin by introducing as much concrete and important concepts as possible. For example students will be taught how to identify their names, how to colour in one direction either vertically or horizontally and how to identify shapes to name a few.  Later down the developmental line, I would also seek to read as often as possible to my students and help guide them through identification. For example students will be taught how to identify letters and numbers as well as their respective names. In addition, I would also seek to develop the affective domain of my students at this stage in order to demonstrate a sense of care, motivation and encouragement in order to help them develop a rigid attitude towards learning.

Moreover, as a student and training educator, I have come to witnessed that students develop a greater love for what they are doing or told to do once they are compensated with love and affection. Because of this, students become trust worthy and keen to seek the teacher as a mother or father or a simply individual whom they can count on. The element of love and affection has also proven to encourage students to work harder, as they know that their teachers support them in every way. Therefore, since love, care and affection have proven to be a major element in the lives of humans on a whole, in my learning environment I would most definitely encourage it.

Nonetheless, to make sure that I continue to meet my goals and expectations, I’d seek assistance from theorists such as Erik Erikson, Howard Gardner, Jean Piaget, John Dewey, Lev Vygotsky and the master of behaviourism Frederic Skinner. I’ve chosen to combine certain aspects of the theorists’ outlined above because my education philosophy cannot simply be rooted from one philosopher. There are many aspects within each philosopher that help determine my personality and the way in which I’d like to educate my students.  For example, when looking at the theory of behaviourism, the aspect of stimulus and response is one with which I can identify. Then with constructivism which works hand in hand with Dewey’s theory of learning by doing, I can also identify as they both seek to emphasize self-discovery and learning through hands on experiences.  

Firstly, I’d use the theory of Psychological Development introduced by theorist Erick Erikson to determine the stage at which each student is at. With this, I would be able to better meet the needs of my students as Foundation Based Education (FBE) requires that no child be left behind; regardless of his or her limitations. When determining what needs a certain child will need, the theory of Erik Erikson will help me determine the stage at which the child is at in order to apply psychological assistance if such should be needed as well as provide essentials to help cope with psychological problems.

 Secondly, I’d use the theory of Multiple Intelligence introduced by Howard Gardner along with the theory of Cognitive Development introduced by Jean Piaget to better understand the reasons why some students are able to grasp certain concepts faster than others. The information I obtain from the analysis, would be use to find innovative ways to promote similar remote responses within most students in the class. For example, if a child is more kinetically inclined than one whom is more musically inclined, I would seek to use Piaget’s approaches of catering to the child’s learning style by creating innovative ways to diversify my teaching and teaching strategies.

Thirdly, I’d use the Educational theory introduced by John Dewey and that of constructivism, to determine a child’s learning style and promote hands on experiences within my classroom activities. Through the use of my lesson plan, I’d develop activities which would require more direct hands on experiences by students. For example during a science lesson, I’d use the discovery learning approach to make the subject more exciting and less theoretical. I would have my students involve themselves in experiments, so as to develop their curiosity and approach to the subject.

Fourthly, to allow for social growth, I would use the theory of Social Development introduced by Lev Vygotsky, to promote social interaction within my students. Since social interaction promotes understanding and is vital in the development of every child. I would help enforce it during and after class lessons. This is because whenever we interact socially we simply tend to pass on information to each other. This information at times, if not all the time, has us questioning what we may previously know, or, in turn, help form a new interpretation of what we believe. In addition, I’d use the theory of Behaviourism introduced by Fredrick Skinner, to promote his method of stimulus and response. With this method I would be able to adequately control the behaviour of my students and award them whenever this behaviour is excellent.

In conclusion, when utilizing the elements of guidance, assistance and care within my classroom, I’d be able to produce profound and well rounded individuals for my society. These are individuals whom are active, willing and well educated in all aspects of life, those who are not afraid to take on challenges in life; individuals whom are eager to learn and look beyond the literal into the critical. Furthermore, when guiding my teachings with the educational theories brought forward, I would make sure to provide my students with the essentials they need to be successful.
