In secondary perspective which isn’t their own, and
In this essay, I will focus on the
feminist film theory proposed by Laura Mulvey, emphasising the passivity and
activity of male and female in film. Cinema tells the audience how to desire
and conditions the fantasies into a cinematic gaze which favours the man.
Mulvey’s theory suggests that woman can only watch a film from a secondary
perspective which isn’t their own, and can only view themselves from a man’s
perspective. We live in a patriarchal societ, henceforth the rules and
regulations set in place are by men, constructing and representing their own
ideal visions, roles and male dominance over women which is highly reflected in
the cinema. Mulvey’s theory focuses on the fact that men in the cinema get to
objectify and look at a woman in a way that is socially acceptable.
