Research in plasma science open a new era of science and technology
which has a very diverse applicability. It is going to be a prominent approach
for addressing the challenges of the Food, Energy and Water Nexus (FEWN). Understanding
how plasma acts when it interacts with different phases and types of materials
is very crucial and important. To exploit the properties of plasma for the
betterment of human being, first we must have clear idea about how plasma
behaves. Intrinsically the behaviour of plasma, when it interacts with
different materials is highly complicated, and it is hard to control and
confine it. Addressing the challenges of FEWN and observing the usefulness of
plasma involves studying plasma in a large scale which involves following
issues:

One effective way of studying
plasma and its behaviour is to analyze it quantitatively using some simulation
tools which are not available yet in a good shape. Availability of a versatile
plasma simulation tool will make plasma research lucrative all over the world
and many researchers will then involved in the research filed like plasma. This
will eventually enrich the knowledge in plasma and open the option to exploit
it for the betterment of human being.    

This project is designed to
overcome all those challenges and making plasma research available to the
scientific community all over the world thorough powerful simulation tool. The
tool will be free and open source allowing scope for further improvement. It is
a combined effort of North Carolina State University, University of Illinois at
Urbana Champaign, Idaho National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The
project is planned to make a common platform which will make a useful interface
in between MOOSE and Zapdos including more chemical features as well as
multiscale, non-equilibrium chemical physics fields. The synergy and complexity
in plasma will also be included eventually making it a versatile plasma
research framework.
