Social the ranking in system in one’s society.
Social stratification study is conducted by sociologist who uses this term to help them define the ranking in system in one’s society. There are many factors that come into mind when determining social status systems. It’s not limited too but the most key factors of people hierarchy are education, income, race, power, etc. In addition to the factors there is a concept that must be applied that relates to social stratification. And in this essay i will like to analyze and look at stratification perspectives. I want to prove how this study of social inequality plays a vital role in societies operation and socioeconomic strata. The study of social stratification is conducted by sociologist to help get a better understanding of an individual’s rank, based on the factors that influence an individual’s social status. There are mainly two different types of stratification systems. Throughout the world and in its history stratification reflected and emphasized on certain culture values and the shape of an individual’s beliefs, which help determine if vertical mobility exist. Based on if a society is using a closed class or open class system informs if they are able change social status. Basically where an individual can move up and down the stratification ladder. In most closed class societies, an individual has no vertical mobility for their social standing. If a society uses a open system chances are limited. Open societies has more opportunities. An example of a closed class system is the caste system. The caste system is supported by Hindu’s belief that supports the acceptance of one’s fate. The social status an individual is born into is the group they will have to spend the rest of their life in. The determination of your life is out of your hands. Another example is slavery, which is when a person who is the legal property (ownership) of another and is forced to obey them. In closed systems, a person has no control of their social position; they are assigning to an occupation that determines their fate. Accepting this social standing was considered a moral duty. Cultural values reinforced the system. Caste systems promote beliefs in fate, destiny, and the will of a higher power, rather than promoting individual freedom as a value. A person who live(ed) in a close society is limited to accept his or her social standing. An open class society may use class system that is based on social factor and individual achievement. This system categorizes people into a proper class based on key factors like wealth, income, education and occupation as discussed. A society that portrays an open class economy has the importance of social groups defines who you are. Individuals are grouped in terms of similarities on their division class. This is very unlike the caste system; class systems are open for vertical. People are free to gain a different level of education or employment. They have the opportunity to expand their social groups can also socialize with and marry members of other classes, which allows people to move from one class to another.Sociologist, Marx, argues that there are only two distinct classes in society, the capitalist class and the working class. The capitalist class, was those whom owned the production. The working class, those who owned their labor power which they sell to the caplist class. Marx felt that soon there would be a conflict of interest leading to a downfall because he forsees eventually the working class will soon realise and over throw the capitalism. On the other hand, Weber testified that the separation of classes should four; capitalist, in capitalist society; the propertied upper class, the property less white-collar workers, the petty bourgeoisie and the manual working class. He did agree with Marx’s theory that the major social class division is between the the capitalist and the working class. However, he argued that these divisions can be explained even more. Weber believed an individual’s social status is a not as so important looking at very important factor. From the social market their market situation as well. Different jobs demand different skill. His theory was that skills are more highly valued than social status. Measuring social class objectively is very important. Looking through social class objectively we classify individuals within a society according to more than one criterion, such as income, occupation, and education. There are many variables that determine which social class is based in. Sociologists are the ones who conduct this study on socioeconomic strata, which relies on the person’s lifestyle, the schools they attend, family’s reputation, community they live in, how “old” or “new” people’s wealth is, and so forth. For clarity, in the United States we will limit ourselves to the four social classes included in the upper class, the middle class, the working class, and the lower class. It all depends on the way someone defines upper class. Individuals in the upper class tend to have old money. This money has been around for a long time, through family generations. This can be a very broad discussion; the middle class can be broken down into levels too. It can either be upper or lower middle class. The middle class are people who work in white-collar jobs as teachers or nursed. Most have college degrees some with bachelors and most of them with associates or maybe just have their high school degree. These people in this income bracket live very humble. They can hardly go on vacations, send their kids to college, and buy expensive cars. People in the upper-middle class typically have college and, very often, graduate or professional degrees; live in the suburbs or in fairly expensive urban areas; and are bankers, lawyers, engineers, corporate managers, and financial advisers, among other occupations. The working-class individuals work in blue-collar jobs which consist of factory work, construction, restaurants. People in those households own at most their four year degree. They live unconfutable compared to most classes. People in the working class typically do not have 4-year college degrees, and some do not have high school degrees. Although most of them may live on poverty, it is most likely rented. Their financial situation is very uncomfortable. Receiving large bills or making hug purchase would be very difficult for them to pay without putting them in debt. Working-class families is not likely to pay to send their children to schools or own things in society to build. They are considering renters. Some sociologists have identified those in lower class to also be called ‘underclasses. The lower classes are individuals who are unemployed. Many of the United States lower class do not have a high school degree and either unemployed or do work like unskilled jobs. These individuals who are consider as poor. When they do work, they work as janitors, house cleaners, migrant laborers, and shoe shiners. They can barely afford to pay rent lack medical insurance. When the study is taking place on how societies is evaluate their reward achievements either for academics or job performance, sociologist see many aspects of meritocracies. The term meritocracy is a belief of an ideal system that believes social stratification is a personal effort (merit) that determines an individual social standing. This concept is an ideal because no society is based on the idea of higher level of efforts will lead to high social positions, it’s basically a merit. Even though meritocracy has never existed sociologist do see aspects of meritocracy in modern day societies. They use this merit to help them in their study in the role of social status. In my opinion, study of social inequality plays a vital role in societies operation and socioeconomic strata. The open class system gives you the opportunity
